Call +1 844 627 7246If your doctor has told you that your cancer is NTRK fusion positive, it means that an important gene has joined together, or fused, with another. The NTRK gene produces a protein that’s needed for healthy development and survival of nerve cells. (There are actually three versions of the gene, known as NTRK1, NTRK2, and NTRK3.) Like certain other genes, NTRK can, in rare cases, fuse with other genes. An NTRK gene fusion has been found to promote the spread of several forms of solid-tumor cancer. NTRK mutations, or DNA errors, may also occur in this gene, though less is known about this alteration.
Several drugs that target the NTRK gene fusion and slow the spread of cancer have become available in recent years. For patients who test positive for this genetic abnormality, clinical trials of NTRK inhibitors are another option.
A clinical trial is a research study in which scientists evaluate the effectiveness and safety of new medical treatments. That includes new drugs or novel combinations of drugs for treating cancer and other diseases. Every drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had to be tested first in clinical trials.
