A Guide To Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Clinical Trials

This actionable non-small cell lung cancer guide lays out the considerations when managing your diagnosis to help you with the process and to make sure no step is missed along the way.

Steps Step 1

Understanding
Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer, about 80% of lung cancer cases are NSCLC. NSCLC typically grows slower than Small-cell lung cancer (SCLC). There are three types of NSCLC:

  • Adenocarcinoma: The most common type of NSCLC, which starts in cells that make mucus and is found on the outer parts of the lung
  • Squamous cell carcinoma: Accounts for about 25% of NSCLC cases, which starts in the lining of the airways of the lungs
  • Large-cell carcinoma: The least common type of NSCLC, occurring in about 10% of cases and starting anywhere in the lung
Steps Step 2

How Clinical
Trials Can Help

There are approximately 835 clinical trials for non-small cell lung cancer recruiting patients in the United States. These trials are investigating new treatments and detection methods that could save lives in the future such as:

  • Targeted therapies for new biomarkers
  • Immunotherapy using new monoclonal antibodies
  • Combinations of chemotherapies with other drugs
  • Cryosurgery
  • Photodynamic therapy (PDT)

Participating in a clinical trial not only progresses muchneeded research but gives patients access to these new innovative therapies years before the general population.
