First Things Know About Cancer Treatment

Though cancer can seem scary, we’re going to get through this together.

When we’re in the know, we can tackle problems more effectively. These Frequently Asked Questions will hopefully answer many of your uncertainties. If you have further questions, reach out. We’d love to hear from you!

Does my insurance cover this?

Our team works with you throughout your reimbursement journey! We create a letter of medical necessity to share with your insurance company so both you and your oncologist have vital information for authorization processes. We provide access to our database of Letters of Medical Necessity, which are tailored to your specific case, tumor genomic/biomarker information, and type of cancer, supported by state-of-the-art evidence from our Virtual Tumor Board and curated knowledge base. These letters have all of the available information needed to maximize medication approval by insurance companies.

Can I use my Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or a Health Savings Account (HSA)?

You may be able to receive reimbursement in a tax-advantaged way for the costs of Massive Bio’s services or for your co-pay if your oncologist orders Massive Bio’s services and documents that request and you have either a FSA or HSA, regardless of whether the services are reimbursable under your health insurance coverage.

How do you decide which doctors review my records?

Our team handpicks each physician on your Virtual Tumor Board, all of whom are not just general practitioners or from one institution. They are the best doctors for your specific cancer from the best hospitals in the world. They are top experts in their field who devote their lives to understanding and beating whatever cancer you have, be it lung or leukemia or another type you have.

How long do you track my progress?

After receiving your report, we continue to steadily update and track your progress for 90 days and update your report accordingly. After 90 days, every 3 months up to a year, we check back in and track your outcome.

How quickly can I receive my personalized treatment plan?

Typically within 7-10 business days, your personalized treatment plan will be prepared and ready for you. Every case is unique and so we are happy to accommodate your preferred timeline. If, for instance, you have a doctors appointment in two days and you want to discuss your personalized treatment options with your treating oncologist, we will do our best to work with that timeline.

Will my local doctor be upset I am using Massive Bio?

Although we are not your medical provider, we are an integral part of your cancer treatment team, facilitating the process to ensure you receive the best treatment plan possible. We work alongside and collaborate with your local doctor because we believe in teamwork.

Do I need to change doctors?

Our goal is to facilitate and integrate your treatment plan into your everyday life. Your Virtual Tumor Board, after they gather all your information, will make recommendations based on where you live and who your overseeing physician is. Our intention is to not refer you outside your treatment location and create more inconvenience. However, there may be certain circumstances when your care may need to occur at a different location if advanced treatment or a clinical trial is not available locally. In those instances, we work with you along with your current and future physicians to provide smooth transition.

Do I have to travel?

If you live in a rural area far from a world-renowned hospital, you likely do not have the time nor resources to travel to receive the best treatment to fight your disease. We provide you access to oncology experts at 25 academic medical centers throughout the US from the comfort of your home. As best we can, we cater your customized treatment plan to your current living situation.
